English Education Program. State Islamic College Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Advisor. Dr. Arina Shofiya, M.Pd. Keywords: Teacher's Strategies, Motivation. The teacher has an important role in a process of teaching and learning. The teacher a person who has a big responsibility to educate the students to become human resources and to reach success in the education program. Teacher’s strategies are very important for every teacher to improve her teaching. A teacher is demanded to have teaching strategies to support the quality of teaching and learning process. In education, teacher must have strategies because it is basic ability to adjust with technology development in life. Education also must be developed. Many problems arise in education, such as the students’ difficulties in receiving material because of the differentiation of order that they can learn well and get good scores. The teacher can motivate students by applying some strategies. Therefore, the teacher should have his or her effective and efficient strategies to motivate the students. Besides, the English language is a difficult lesson that not all of the people can master. Many people considered that the English language is not easy to learn, so it not surprising most students are not well motivated to learn English. Meanwhile, the English language is very important in the globalization era as International communication. The formulation of the research problems was: (1) What are the English teacher’s strategies to motivate students to learn English at Junior High School 01 Ngunut Tulungagung? (2) How do the English teachers’ strategies contribute to students’ motivation in learning English at Junior High School 01 Ngunut Tulungagung? The purposes of the study were to: (1) To know the English teacher’s strategies to motivate the students to learn English at Junior High School 01 Ngunut Tulungagung. (2) To know the English teachers’ strategies contribute to students’ motivation in learning English at Junior High School 01 Ngunut Tulungagung? The research methods included: (1) The research design in this study was a descriptive qualitative research design. (2) The informant in this research were the English teacher and the students of regular class of Junior High School 01 Ngunut Tulungagung. (3) The technique of data collection was an interview, observation, and documentation. (4) Data in this research were the information obtained from an interview with the asking and answering English teacher and students, confirm information by making observation checklist in teaching and learning English process, and take a documentation with students’ field notes during teaching and learning English process in the regular class at Junior High School 01 Ngunut Tulungagung. (5) The data analysis used in this research was inductive method by Ary. This findings of the research revealed that the teacher’s strategies which can motivate students are: associating lesson with real life, games, memorizing, practices, and giving a test. Associating lesson with real life that is effective to motivate students in learning English, mainly assumed that learning English is important for the future because English is an International language, so students are motivated to keep learning English. Meanwhile, games are conducted with students in a group. The teacher used English crossword puzzle games strategy. Next, memorizing is one of the effective strategy to motivate students inlearning English. In one day, students must memorize three vocabularies from storybooks that have been read. After that, the students will present their vocabulary one by one in front of the class. Besides, practices related with the material. It means that practice to memorize a new vocabulary. By repeating and practicing will create a memory in the brain. The last strategy is the giving a test. The test is a strategy for giving quiz to the students. This strategy makes students compete to get good scores by data informant from English teacher. Besides, the contribution of English teachers’ strategies on students’ motivation in learning English at Junior High School 01 Ngunut Tulungagung by informant of students’ regular class and observation checklist are: increasing students’ vocabulary, train students’ to be more active in using English either in or outside class, increasing students’ motivation in writing, and make students learn English comfortably. To sum up, the teacher at teaching English in a regular class at Junior High School 01 Ngunut Tulungagung is characterized by the use of English both in and both out of classroom activities by the students used various teaching strategies. It means that from some of the strategies English teachers used when teaching and learning processes are significant effects and contribute to the students' motivation to learn English.
