Abstract

The Effectiveness of Using YouTube Video on The Second Grade Students’ Speaking Ability in Recount Text at MTs Assyafi’iyah Gondang.Thesis. English Education Department. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. Susanto, SS, M.Pd. Keywords: effectiveness, YouTube video, speaking in recount text YouTube video is one of interesting media that could be used in teaching speaking in recount text . This media could be seen and heard. Through the use of YouTube video, the students could built and develop their knowledge speaking in recount text. Besides, this media could motivate students to learn speaking in recount text. In this study, the researcher tried to implement YouTube video in teach speaking in recount text to know its effectiveness toward the second grade students’ speaking ability in recount text at MTs Assyafi’iyah Gondang. The formulation of the research problem were: 1) how is the students’ speaking score in recount text without using YouTube video as the teaching media? 2) how is the students’ speaking score in recount text by using YouTube video as the teaching media? 3) is there any significant difference speaking score in recount text between the students’ without using YouTube video and those by using YouTube video as teaching media?. The research method: 1) the researh design used in this researh was quasi experimental design with quantitative approach, 2) the population of this research was the second grade students of MTs Assyafi’iyah Gondang, 3) the samples were 70 students taken from VIII A class as the control class and VIII B class as the experimental class, 4) the research instrument used to collect the data was test, 5) the researcher used t-test formula by using SPSS program 23.0 version to analyze the data. The result of this research indicates: (1) the students’ mean score of pretest in control class was 49.06 and the mean of posttest was 56.17. (2) the students’ mean score of pretest in experimental class was 51.06 and the mean of posttest 59.86. (3) there was different score between control class and experimental class. There was shown score F-test computation by using SPSS program 23.0 version was 0.76 and it was bigger than F-table 0.05. So in this research, H1 was accepted and H0 was rejected. It means that, YouTube video was effective used to improve students’ speaking in recount text. YouTube video can be used as an alternative media applied by English teacher in teaching and learning speaking activity especially for recount text.
