Keywords:Effectiveness, Students’ Speaking Ability, Storytelling, and Video. Speaking is very important because speaking and human being cannot be separated from each other. In speaking, students should master the elements of speaking, such as vocabularies, pronounciation, grammar, comprehension and fluency. Practicing speaking English in classroom should be interested with appropriate tehnique in order to make students speaking ability can be improved and the process of learning can be enjoyable. In this modern era, there are some technique that can be used by teachers to help students to make a good speaking. One of technique is storytelling through video that used for educational purpose. Storytelling allows students to internalize important aspects of story and expressing ideas. The formulation of research problem in this study: Is there significant differences on the students’ speaking ability taught before and after being using storytelling method? Based on formulation of research problem, the purpose of this study is to know whether the use of storytelling as the technique makes significant different score toward the speaking ability. This study, the reseacher used quantitative approach, exactly in pre-experimental design. The population of this study was students at ten grade of MA Al Ma’arif Tulungagung that consist of three classes. The sample of this study was 15 students of X-MIA of MA Al Ma’arif Tulungagung. The research instrument used was test. In this test, the reseacher analyzed the data by using Paired Sample T-test with IBM SPSS Statistics 16. The finding this study showed that is significant difference the result of pretest and posttest. The mean of pretest was 35.40, while the mean of posttest was 52.07. Based on statistical calculation, the significant value (0.000) is smaller than significant level (0.05). It means that the alternative (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. For it, there was significant difference between the results of pretest and posttest. The use of storytelling through video is effective on students’ speaking ability at MA Al Ma’arif Tulungagung. In other words, the use of storytelling through video can be an alternative media to teach speaking at MA Al Ma’arif Tulungagung. A suggestion to the teacher use this technique, teaching speaking so that the students are always interested and enthusiastic. The students would be active in classroom because storytelling through video help students to be active in learning English. Using storytelling through video is helping the teacher to facilitate the students to be easier to express the ideas that want to speak. The students motivation can increase so their imagination about the story can increase too. It means they feel free using their own vocabulary development.
