Abstract

Writing is very important skill that used to express their ideas into words. For many students, writing is the most difficult skill. Some of aspect lead difficulties of students are (1) students low in grammar (2) students lack in vocabulary (3) students low in mechanics language. To help the students to make a good writing ability, the teacher must be creative in teaching and learning process. In this modern era, there are technologies that can be used by teachers to help students to make a good writing ability. One of technologies is Edmodo that used for educational purpose. The teacher and students can connect by Edmodo to share their ideas, submitting their works, sharing knowledge or information.. The formulation of research problem in this study: Is Edmodo effective on the students’ writing ability of recount text at SMPN1 Sumbergempol? Based on the formulation of research problem, the purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of Edmodo on students’ writing ability of recount text. In this study, the researcher used quantitative approach, exactly in pre-experimental design. The population of this study was students at second grade of SMPN1 Sumbergempol that consist of ten classes. The sample of this study was 35 students of VIII F of SMPN1 Sumbergempol. The research instrument used was test. In this study, the researcher conducted three steps. They are pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The researcher analyzed the data by using Paired Sample T-test with IBM SPSS Statistics 16. The finding showed that is significant difference the result of pre-test and post-test. The mean of pre-test was 52.91, while the mean of post-test was 67.77. From statistical calculation, Sig. (2-tailed) was less than 0.05 (0.00<0.05). It means that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. For it, there was a significant difference between the results of pre-test and post-test. The use of Edmodo is effective on students’ writing ability at SMPN1 Sumbergempol. In other words, the use of Edmodo can be an alternative media to teach writing recount text at SMPN1 Sumbergempol. This study had some of implications as follows: (1) Teacher can use Edmodomedia to teach writing especially in recount text. Using Edmodo can imperove students’ writing ability (2) Using Edmodo in teaching writing makes students enjoy. Teacher and students can connect by Edmodoat inside and outside classroom. (3) By Edmodo in learning process help teacher and students connect to sharing knowledge.
