Abstract

ABSTRACT Srihidayah, Wheni. Student Registered Number. 1723143182.2018.EFL Teacher’s Strategies in Teaching Speaking at MTs Sunan Kalijogo Sendang Tulungagung. Sarjana Thesis. English education Department. Faculty of Tarbiah and Teacher Training. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Advisor. Dr. Erna Iftanti, M.Pd. Keywords: EFL Teacher, Strategies, Teaching Speaking Speaking is one of the elements of communication”. It shows that one of effective skills of doing communication is speaking. Besides, speaking is one of the important skills that must be mastered by all English students. In mastering speaking skill, there is some element that influence it. One of element is teacher’s strategies. Students will master this skill also because of EFL Teacher’s teaching process. Based on that statement, EFL Teachers also must have strategies to develop their students’ speaking. That is why, studying how EFL Teacher strategies in teaching speaking was interesting. The formulation of the research problem were: 1) what strategies used by EFL teacher in teaching speaking at MTS Sunan Kalijogo Sendang Tulungagung? 2) how are the students responses to the teacher strategies implemented in teaching speaking at MTS Sunan Kalijogo Sendang Tulungagung? The purposes of this research were: 1) to describe the strategies which are used by EFL teacher in teaching speaking at MTS Sunan Kalijogo Sendang Tulungagung, 2) to describe the students’ responses toward the strategies which are used by English Teacher. The research method: 1) the research design of this study was descriptive design with qualitative approach, 2) data source of the research was EFL teachers as the subject, students as informant and related documentation, 3) the method of collecting data was observation and interview, 4) technique of verification was triangulation methodologically and triangulation sources, 5) technique of data analysis was data reductions, data display and conclusion drawing. The result of this research showed that the strategies in teaching speaking are discussion and debate strategy. This strategies used to increase and develop students in expressing their opinion and consideration. Besides, this strategy also used to develop their self confident in speaking. The students’ responses indicate that they are interested and this strategies useful to support their speaking mastery. But there was some students that doesn’t interest with the strategy because they doesn’t like group work and they felt difficult in select correct word.
