The Effectiveness of Using Strip Story Technique Toward Student’s Speaking Ability of the Tenth Grade at SMAN 1 Rejotangan Tulungagung. Thesis. English Education Department. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) Tulungagung. Advisor: Dwi Astuti Wahyu Nurhayati, S.S., M.Pd Keyword : Effectiveness, Strip-story, Speaking Ability Speaking is one of skill is still difficult for senior high school students. At this time, the tenth grade students of SMAN 1 Rejotangan Tulungagung have some problems in learning speaking; first the students are afraid of making mistake in grammar, the students are still shy to speak English, the students do not have confidence to speak in front of the class because they are afraid of being laughed by their friends if they make mistake in speaking English. Based on the problems, the researcher want to help the students to be more actuve in speaking English orally and improve students’ speaking ability by using strip-story as the technique. The research problem can be formulated as follow: 1) How is the students’ speaking ability taught by using strip-story technique? 2) Is there any significance difference on the students’ speaking ability who being taught by using strip-story technique and without using strip-story technique? The purpose of the reserach problem were to: 1) know the students’ speaking ability taught by using strip-story technique. 2) identify the significant different of the students’ speaking ability who taught by using strip-story technique and without using strip-story technique. Research method: 1) The research design in this research was quasi experimental design with quantitative approach, 2) the population of this research was all of the tenth grade students’ of SMAN 1 Rejotangan Tulungagung which consist of 9 classes, 3) the sample was X-A as the control class consist of 27 students and X-B as the experimental class consist of 25 students, 4) the research instrument was test, 5) the data was analysis using SPSS 23.00 for windows. Based on the research analysis as explained above, the researcher concludes that there is any significant difference in the students’ speaking ability before and after being taught by using strip-story technique of tenth grade student at SMAN 1 Rejotangan Tulungagung. Based on the result (tsig.value) 0.002, while the t sig.level for α= 5 % with N = 25 obtained 0.05. It means tsig.value > tsig.level in other words (Ha) is accepted and (Ho) is rejected. The result of this study 0.002 > 0.05. It means that there is different score to the tenth grade students of SMAN 1 Rejotangan before and after being taught by using strip-story. The difference is significant.
