Thesis. English Department. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. H. Nursamsu, M.Pd Keyword: Effectiveness, Writing ability, Think-Talk-Write (TTW) strategy Writing is a difficult ability for students because in this skill students not only have to express ideas but also understand and learn about grammar structures. These skills should be improved with a lot of practice because the key to success in writing is more learning and practice a lot. Think-Talk-Write (TTW) is one of strategies which suitable in teaching writing. Because in this strategy include think activities seen when the students see the picture, then making a note about what they see, talk activities occurs when students interact in groups to discuss the contents notes and write activities seen in the process of writing the result of think and talk. Think-Talk-Write (TTW) is used to develop writing practicing the language fluently before writing. Research problems of this research: is TTW strategy effective for improving the students writing ability among the 7th grade in MTsN 2 Kota Blitar?. And the purpose of this research: to find out how TTW strategy can effective for improving the students writing ability among the 7th grade in MTsN 2 Kota Blitar. The research design in this research is pre-experimental research that uses one group pretest and posttest design in quantitative approach. The population of this research was all of seventh grade students of MTsN 2 Kota Blitar. The sample was 7H class consisting of 39 students. The sample was taken by using non probability sampling that is purposive sampling. The research instrument that used are pretest and posttest. Treatment it is using by Think-Talk-Write (TTW) strategy. The data of this research is students score in pretest and posttest, and to analysis the data the researcher used paired sample t-test at SPSS program 16.0. The finding showed significant difference between the results it of pretest and posttest. The mean of posttest score (77.28) was higher than the mean of pretest score (64.05). From statistical calculation, it was confirmed that the value of tcount (11.128). Also, the way to test whether the null hypothesis could be rejected was by comparing p-value with the standard level of significant 0.05. The convention to reject the null hypothesis is when the p-value of the data obtained statistic is lee than 0.05. The findings revealed that after using think talk write strategy in posttest, the student’s score were significantly better. It means that the treatment improve students writing in descriptive text. And there is any significant different between the students competence in writing descriptive text being taught by Think-Talk-Write (TTW) strategy.
