Keywords: Effectiveness, Peer Tutoring Strategy, Reading Comprehension Reading is very important for the students and everyone. To motivate students in reading, the researcher used on form of cooperative learning strategy for teaching reading comprehension that is Peer Tutoring Strategy. In this strategy, the students play the roles of a tutor and a tutee Therefore, this strategy is beneficial because students have a chance to be both the tutor and tutee. So, the students be able to understanding about the materials by learning from each other. The formulation of the research problem was: How is the effectiveness of using Peer Tutoring Strategy on the students’ achievement of reading comprehension in the tenth grade students at SMK NU Tulungagung ? The purposes of this research was to analyze the effectiveness of using Peer Tutoring Strategy on reading comprehension in the tenth grade students at SMK NU Tulungagung. Research Method: 1) the research design in this research was quasiexperimental design with quantitative approach, 2) the population of this research was all students (109 students) of tenth grade at SMK NU Tulungagung, 3) the sample was X TKJ class consisting of 23 students and X Multimedia class consisting of 18 students, 4) the research instrument was test (pre-test and post-test), 5) the technique of data analysis used Independent Sample T-test which was used to find out the difference of students’ mean score in reading comprehension between the experimental class and control class by using software SPSS v.16 for windows. The result showed that in experiment class the students’ mean score in reading descriptive text before they are taught using peer tutoring strategy (pre-test) was 76,33. While the students’ mean score in reading descriptive text after they are taught using peer tutoring strategy (post-test) was 82,28. From the result, indicate that the student’s score mean after taught by using Peer Tutoring Strategy is effective than taught without Peer Tutoring Strategy. In other words, peer tutoring strategy can be used as an alternative strategy to teach reading comprehension to the students at vocational level.
