Student Registered Number. 2813133106. 2017 Genre Analysis of the Reading Texts in Contextual Teaching and Learning Bahasa Inggris Textbook for the Second Grade of Junior High School. Sarjana Thesis. English Education Department. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic Institut (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Advisor: DR. Nurul Chojimah, M.Pd. Keywords: genre, types, reading texts Genre is the the kind of the text in this study. The genre of the texts are recount, descriptive, and narrative. The writer analyzed about the social function and generic structure in each of the text. The linguistic features is included part of speech and grammar. The part of speech are noun, conjunction, adjective, adverb, verb, pronoun, and preposition. In the grammar, there is tenses. The formulation of the research problems were: 1) What genres of reading texts are there in Contextual Teaching and Learning Bahasa Inggris Textbook for the second grade of Junior Secondary School? 2) What features of reading texts are there in each text in Contextual Teaching and Learning Bahasa Inggris Textbook for the second grade of Junior Secondary School? The purposes of the study were 1) To know the genres of reading texts in Contextual Teaching and Learning Bahasa Inggris Textbook for the second grade of Junior Secondary School. 2) To know the features of reading texts in each text in Contextual Teaching and Learning Bahasa Inggris Textbook for the second grade of Junior Secondary School. Research Method: 1) The research design in this text was library research with qualitative approach. 2) The data source was Contextual Teaching and Learning Bahasa Inggris Textbook for second grade level of Junior High School.3) the data was reading texts in the textbook. 4) The technique of data collection was downloading, reading, identification, and classification. 5) The technique of data analysis was identifying and comparing the genre then interpreting the data. The findings of the research are genre text and the linguistic feature of the text. There are three kinds of genre of reading text mentioned in Contextual Teaching and Learning Bahasa Inggris textbook; those are recount, descriptive, and narrative. There are fourteen text; four recount, seven descriptive texts and three narrative texts. The linguistic feature that analyzed in the text are part of speech and grammar. In the part of speech, the writer analyzed noun, conjunction, adjective, adverb, verb, pronoun, and preposition. And, in the grammar, the writer analyzed the tenses. In this research, the content of this analysis may still far from being perfect. May, the next writer can make the research more better with searching the textbook that has various texts to be analyze. Also, in analyzing many text wills increase the knowledge about genre for the next writer who wants to conduct a research about genre analysis.
