States Islamic College Institut Of Tulungagung (IAIN ) of Tulungagung, Advisor: Keyword: debate, writing, analytical exposition text, correlation This research focuses to discuss regarding analytical exposition and debate. Analytical exposition which is similiarly argument can be done actually through two ways; it can be done in form of either spoken or written. Spoken analyitical exposition might be done through an activity what is called as debate. Debate is speaking activity which gives one an opportunity to enhance in language learning mainly in the way the speaker rises issues to make a definition and limitation. It’s so analytical exposition in which writer or speaker uses to give argument. Because there is similiarities both debate and analytical exposition, this research surely discusses similiarities between debate and analytical exposition especially writing analytical exposition text. There is a research problems questioned in this research covering “Does the students’ speaking achievement correlate to their writing achievement in analytical exposition?” Meanwhile, the aims of this research is “To find out the correlation between students’ speaking achievement and their writing achivement in analytical exposition”. In this research, the reseacher conducts a quantitative approach by applying the correlative design aimed at knowing if debate achievement correlates with writing analytical exposition text achievement. This research pointed 12 samples engaged in this research taken from the population of XI grade students who is taking debate SMAN 1 Trenggalek. In debate activity, the students are asked to have debate exhibition by Asian-Australian Parlementery form. Commanly, the scores of debate is divided into three terms known as matter, manner, and method. Each of them is also divided into some sub-criteria which ranged 1 up to 10 point for each. After, the score of debate is completely collected, the students involved in debate are also asked to make an analytical exposition text by giving the same topics with debate. Then, the scores of the writing product were taken by using the writing scoring guide. The criteria sets up the rubric consisted of four (4) criterias which ranges are from 1 up to 5 point. After the scores of both tests are collected, they are automatically in the form of number and processed by using SPSS 16.0 programme in order to find out the correlation. Based on the result of the study shows the students’ debate average value is 70,75 and writing average value is 72,66. In other hand, the calculating correlation coefficient is very strong correlation because it places in 0.933. Through the data analysis calculating uses pearson product moment formula by SPSS 16.0 windows which is showed the result in positive. Indeed, the data indicates the sig (2-tailed) value 0.000 is lower than significant value (α) 1% it means the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and so, the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted automatically. Finally, it would like to be concluded that there is significant correlation between students’ achievement in debate and students’ achievement in writing analytical exposition text at SMAN 1 Trenggalek.
