The Effectiveness Of Using Word Wall to Improve Seventh Grader’s Vocabulary Mastery at MTs Aswaja Tunggangri Tulungagung in Academic Year 2016/2017. Thesis. English Department. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Advisor: Faizatul Istiqomah, M.Ed. Keywords: word wall, vocabulary mastery. Based on writers preliminary observation at MTs Aswaja Tunggangri, there are many students who still have difficulties and problems in mastering vocabulary. Most of the students are not interested in learning vocabulary because teacher translate word by word in teaching. It makes students bored in English class. One of the beneficial media in improving students mastery of vocabulary is the word wall. By applying word wall, students can remember the vocabulary without feeling that they are very serious in studying. The purposes of the study are: 1) to find out students’ vocabulary score berfore being taught by using word wall media; 2) to find out students’ vocabulary score after being taught by using word wall media; 3) to find out significant different score before and after being taught by using word wall media. This study used quantitative approach with pre-experimental with one group pretest and post-test design. The population of the research were all the students of eight excellent class at MTs Aswaja Tunggangri consisting of 90 students. The sample of this research is class of VII A consists of 27 students selected by purposive sampling. Meanwhile, the instruments used in this study were pre-test and post-test. The data collected through pre-test and post-test were analyzed by using Paired Samples T-test with SPSS Windows 16.0. The findings showed siginificant differences between the result of pre-test and post-test. The mean of post-test score (84.10) was higher than the mean of pre-test score (62.40). From statistical calculation, it was cofirmed that the value of t-count (14.352) was larger than t-table (2.056). Also, the way to test wether the null hypothesis could be rejected was by comparing p-value with the standard level of significance 0.05. The convention to reject the null hypothesis is when the p-value of the obtained statistic is less than 0.05. The finding showed that p-value was less than 0.05 (0.000 < 0.05). Thus, there was enough evidence indicating that the null hypothesis could be rejected. It’s mean that using word wall as a teaching media is effective to improve vocabulary mastery at junior high school especially for the second grade of MTs Aswaja Tunggangri.
