Keywords: Effectiveness, Picture Word Inductive Model, Descriptive text reading ability. Reading is the most essential English skill for success in education contexts. Through reading, students can get new information and knowledge. In improving the student’s achievement, the teacher has an important role in teaching reading. The teacher should be creative in finding better strategies to deliver the materials. Therefore, picture word inductive model is one strategy which can be used to solve the problems in understanding descriptive text on reading ability. The objectives of this study are: 1) To find out the students’ descriptive text reading ability before being taught by using picture word inductive model, 2) To find out the students’ descriptive text reading ability after being taught by using picture word inductive model, and 3) To find out the effectiveness of using picture word inductive model in teaching descriptive text on reading ability at the seventh graders of MTsN Bandung in Academic Year 2016/2017. In conducting this research, the researcher used pre-experimental method.The population is the seventh graders. The number of the population was 342 students. In taking the sample, the researcher used probability that is cluster sampling technique. VII B class was chosen as a try out class, and VII C consists of 41 students as an experimental class who were taught by using Picture word inductive model. The study was carried out in one experimental class. The data were gathered through tests which were delivered into the pretest and the post-test. The technique to analyze the data was paired samples t-test with SPSS window 16.0. The result of the study showed the mean score of pre-test was 64.27 and the mean score of post-test was 77.93 which higher than the mean score of pretest. From the result of paired samples test, the significant value was 0.00 lower than 0.05. It means the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and between pre-test and post-test there is significant differences. The result of tcount (12.856) was bigger than ttable (2.02). In the other word, the Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the Null Hypothesis (H0) is rejected. It means that there is a significant differences score of students’ descriptive text reading ability before being taught by using picture word inductive model and after being taught by using picture word inductve model. Therefore, the use of picture word inductive model strategy on reading ability of descriptive text is effective to improve students’ descriptive text reading abililty.
