Reading comprehension is the ability to comprehend what is read. Most of students usually feel difficult and get bored as long as doing reading comprehension activity in exploring narrative text. Therefore, to help students interested in comprehending the whole content of narrative text easily like looking for main idea, massage and the important informations, method is needed to improve students’ reading comprehension. It is PQRST Method that was proposed by Rune Peterson. PQRST Method is one of the best method to solve the problem of students in reading comprehension. The formulation of research problem: Is PQRST Method effective on the eight grade students reading comprehension ability at SMPN 1 Sumbergempol 2016/2017 in exploring Narrative Text? The objective of research is to know the effectiveness of PQRST Method on the eight grade students’ reading comprehension ability at SMPN 1 Sumbergempol 2016/2017 in exploring Narrative Text. The researcher determines this study as quantitative approach in form of pre experimental design that involves one only group pre-test and post-test without class control. The population is all of the students which consist of 368 students. Then, for sample is class of VIII B consists of 37 students that are selected by purposive sampling. The instrument in this research is reading comprehension test by using objective test that consists of twenty five multiple choices about narrative text. To measure the result of pre-test and post-test used Paired sample t-test in SPSS 16.0. Whether effective or not. The result showed that difference between the scores of pre-test and post-test. The mean score of post-test (70.486) is higher than the mean score of pre-test (50.648. The significance value is smaller than the significance level (0.000<0.05). It means alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. In order word, there is significant difference of students’ achievement in reading comprehension before and after being taught using PQRST Method. So, it can be concluded that PQRST Method is effective on the eight grade students reading comprehension ability in exploring narrative text at SMPN 1 Sumbergempol Tulungagung in academic year 2016/1017.
