Keywords: effectiveness, bingo game, grammar mastery In teaching English, grammar is one of the important component. Without grammar, the structure of the sentence will be difficult to understand. In learning a language, people have to concern with its grammar because it will help them to perform better in listening, reading, speaking, and writing. One technique can be used in teaching grammar is bingo game. Bingo game is a popular game which has been used for language teaching in many forms. The fomulation of the research problems were: 1) How is students’ grammar mastery on past tense before being taught by using Bingo game? 2) How is students’ grammar mastery on past tense after being taught by using Bingo game? 3) Is there any significant different scores of students on past tense before and after being taught by using Bingo game? The purposes of this research were to: 1) find out the students’ grammar mastery on past tense before being taught by using Bingo game, 2) find out the students’ grammar mastery on past tense after being taught by using Bingo game, 3) find out if there is significant students’ score in past tense before and after being taught by using Bingo game. Research method: 1) the research design in this research was pre-experimental design with quantitative approach, 2) the population of this reserach was all students of eighth grade at MTsN Tulungagung, 3) the sample was VIII-B class consisting of 35 students, 4) the research instrument was tests, 5) the data analysis was using T-Test on SPSS 16.0 for windows The results showed that the students’ mean score in past tense before they are taught by using bingo game was 56.85. While the students’ mean score after they are taught by using bingo game was 80.00. The Tcount was 25.192, whereas Ttable with significant level 0.05 was 2.032. So, Tcount was higher that Ttable. It concluded that Ho was rejected, it means that there is no significant effect after being taught by using Bingo game and Ha was accepted, it means that there is a significant effect after being taught by using Bingo game. In other words, bingo game can be used as an alternative technique to teach grammar to the students at Junior high school level.
