The Effectiveness of Using Think Aloud Strategy Toward Reading Comprehension of the Eighth Grade Students at MTsN Tulungagung In Academic Year 2016/2017. Thesis. English Education Program. Keywords: Effectiveness, Think Aloud, Reading Comprehension In teaching reading comprehension the students can read the text fluently but they can’t understand content of the text. In other hand, the students not only had to be able to read well, but also understand the context of the text as well. In teaching and learning proccess in the class the teacher only asks the students to read the text and answer the question based on it.Teaching reading comprehension can be taught by using Think Aloud Strategy (TAS) is considered appropriate to increase the students reading comprehension. Therefore, the researcher is interested in finding out the effect of TAS in teaching reading comprehension for eighth graded students at MTsN Tulungagung in academic year 2016/2017. Thus, this research aim to knowing whether TAS is effective to increase the students’ reading comprehension. The Research Method used in this research is pre-experimental research design with quantitative approach. The population of the research is all the students of second grade at MTsN Tulungagung consist of 340 students. The sample of this research used non probability and get the class of VIII- C consist of 34 students. Meanwhile, the research instrument is test which is used to conduct pre-test and post-test. The data collected through pre – test and post – test where analyze by using Paired sample T-test with SPSS windows 16.0. This study reveals that there are two important points: 1) The students’ mean in teaching reading comprehension before being taught by using Think Aloud Strategy is 57.06 and after being taught by using Think Aloud Strategy 78.09 with the range 20.88. 2) In addition, with t-test analysis that used by researcher the result of significant value is 0.000 with the significant level is 0.05 and the result of tcount is 15.600 with ttable is 1.69. It present that the range value between tcount and ttable is 13.900. The above mention different mean and value indicated that Think Aloud Strategy is strongly effective in teaching reading comprehension to the eighth grade at MTsN Tulungagung. It is able to be pedagogically implemented in English mainly in teaching reading comprehension class of the eighth graded at MTsN Tulungagung. This research only used One Group pre-test and post-test, thus for the future researcher it is suggested conduct the same study by using another research method.
