Advisor: Emmi Naja, M.Pd Keywords: Effectiveness, Comic media, Vocabulary Vocabulary is the central of English language teaching. Students need vocabulary in all language skill such as speaking, listening, reading, and writing. It means that important to master vocabulary for their language proficiency. Related on studying vocabulary, the students of seventh grade at SMP Al-Kamal have difficulties in learning vocabulary. Some of them do not understand about the meaning of the word and lack in vocabularies. The teacher should use a media to help students easier to study vocabulary. One of the media used in teaching vocabulary is comic. Comic is a media that contains dialogues and interesting pictures. This media make students easier to study vocabulary, enjoy, and do not bore. Comic that used is a Doraemon Comic. This study was conducted to find out the answer of research problems. Those were, firstly how is the students’ vocabulary achievement before being taught using comic as a media? Secondly, how is the students’ vocabulary achievement after being taught using comic as a media? Thirdly, is there any significant difference of students’ score before and after being taught using comic as a media for the seventh-grade students of SMP Al-Kamal? The purposes of this study were firstly to investigate the students’ vocabulary achievement before being taught using comic as a media, secondly is to investigate the students’ vocabulary achievement after being taught using comic as a media. And thirdly is to investigate significant difference of students’ score before and after being taught using comic as a media for the seventh-grade students of SMP Al-Kamal. Research Method in this study is pre-experimental design with quantitative approach. And the population of this study was all students of seventh grade at SMP Al-Kamal Kunir Blitar while, the sample was VII D class consisting of 25 students. The research instrument of this study was test. And to analyze the data, the researcher used T-test. The result showed that the mean of students’ vocabulary test score before being taught by using comic was 51.88. While the mean of students’ vocabulary score after being taught by using comic was 83.32. And after compared the T that the researcher calculated by using SPSS. The Tcount was 11.452 and the value of Ttable with significant level 5% was 1.710. It was known that Tcount was greater than Ttable (11.452>1.710). It can be concluded that there is any significant difference on the students’ vocabulary achievement before and after being taught using comic as a media for the seventh grade students of SMP Al-Kamal. In other words, using comic as a teaching media is effective to teach vocabulary at junior high school especially for the seventh grade students.
