Keywords: Reading Comprehension, CIRC Method In the process of teaching and learning English, reading is one of skill that is important to be mastered. Reading is the fastest and simplest way to reach peoples’ education level. Reading is also to be priority in teaching and learning process. The students’ successful study depends on their ability in reading. Usually, the students faced the difficulties in reading such as students in SMPI Assalam Jambewangi Blitar. They could not comprehend the content of the text well and their reading achievement was still low. CIRC (Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition) is one of methods which can be used to solve students’ problems in reading comprehension. This method enables the students become more active in learning. In this case, CIRC method can develop students’ ability. CIRC can help the students to learn reading comprehension that can be applied broadly. The formulation of the research problem in this study was “How can the students’ reading comprehension of the seventh grade students at SMPI Assalam Jambewangi in academic year 2015-2016 be improved through the developed CIRC method?” The purpose of this study was “To know how students’ reading comprehension can be improved by using the developed CIRC method of the seventh grade students at SMPI Assalam Jambewangi in academic year 2015-2016”. The research design of this study was Classroom Action Research (CAR) which conducted at the seventh graders of SMPI Assalam Jambewangi in academic year 2015-2016. The Classroom Action Research was conducted in two cycles, each cycle covered four steps, those were planning, implementing, observing and reflecting. The subjects of this study were VII A class consisting 33 students. The research instruments were test, observation sheet and questionnaire. Based on the result of data collection, the implementation of CIRC method could achieve the criteria of success in Cycle 2 with the following steps: first, the researcher asked the students make a group, consisted of 4 students. Second, the researcher gave a passage or text based on the learning topic. Third, the researcher asked the students to read and find out the main idea cooperatively and answered the questions based on the given material also wrote down in worksheet. Fourth, the students presented about the result of group work. The last, the researcher made a common result. As the result of data collection, it showed that after implemented CIRC method, students’ reading comprehension achievement in learning English could better than before. It was supported by significant result students’ mean score of preliminary test that was lower (56.81) than the test in Cycle 1 (76.93). It was about 76% students who passed the criteria of success. But the minimum target which should be fulfilled is 80%. So, this research was not achieved the criteria of success yet. Besides, in Cycle 2 the students’ mean score of test was improved again to the 86.06. It indicated that the result test in Cycle 2 was better than the mean score of test before. There were all of students who passed the criteria of success. So, in Cycle 2 the criteria of success have been achieved. During teaching and learning process by using CIRC method, students were more active and enthusiastic in doing the process of teaching and learning. They had good willingness in following the reading class, especially in English lesson. Besides, based on the result of students’ questionnaire, it could be concluced that CIRC method could be used to solve the students’ problems in reading comprehension. On other word, CIRC method could be used to improve students’ reading comprehension of the seventh grade students at SMPI Assalam Jambewangi Blitar.
