Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) Of Tulungagung. Advisor : Dr. Sukarsono, M, Pd. Keywords: Code switching, Types, Frequency. The study of language is very important, because language is tool of the communication that both speaker and hearer send message. In everyday life many people always use language for the communication. The speaker uses language when the hearer can’t receive the information, then the speaker uses code switching. Code switching can be useful strategy in interaction. If the purpose is to make the meaning becomes clearer and to transfer the knowledge to students in affective way in the class, this strategy is seen more effective when lecturer explains the material in the class. There are two research problems in this research, they are: (1) What types of code swithching are practiced by lecturers of multilingual class? (2) How is the frequency of each types of code switching practiced by lecturers of multilingual class? The purposes of the study are: (1) To describe the type of code swithching practiced by lecturers of multilingual class. (2) To describe frequency of type code switching practiced by lecturers of multilingual class. This study design is descriptive quantitative surveys, which uses observation in collecting data. The researcher conducts percentage of the analysis to get the clear number of code switching occurrences in the class. In this case, the formula used is: P = f/N where P is the symbol of percentage, and f is the frequency of code switching occurrences and the type of code switching. N is the total number of code switching found in the entire data. The result of the study presents five types of code switching; three types are based on theory name romain , and two types are based on theory name suwito. The researcher found to the code switching practice by lecturer in multilingual class of IAIN Tulungagung. The three types are, based on Romain theory, (1) tag switching, (2) intersential switching, and (3) intrasential switching. The two types left, based on Suwito theory, are (1) intern language switching, (2) extern language switching of the code switching practiced by lecturer in multilingual class of IAIN Tulungagung. The frequency of code switching occurrences are tag switching occurs in the result 0.35%, intrasential switching 0.2%, intersential switching 0.06%, intern language switching 0.11% and the last extern language switching 0.28%.
