Keywords: zip zap game, the students’speaking skill English Speaking is an important skill to be taught. By mastering speaking skill, students can communicate their ideas. Moreover, they can improve their knowledge by getting information from learning materials studied in the class. So, improving students English speaking skill is very challenging for every teacher. Practically, the students of SMP Islam Al Azhaar Tulungagung have problems in learning English. The problems were the students felt so shy to speak English because they thought that English was very difficult. Consequently, they were lazy, boredom and unmotivated to study it, many students often used indonesia language in English teaching learning process, the students speaking scores were mostly less than the criteria minimum of success (KKM) that was 75, the students were not active in speaking class and they lacked of confidence. So to solve the student problems above applying the modified Zip Zap Game was necessary. Zip Zap is one of games which is able to stimulate to be more focus in learning. This game provides more opportunities for student to express their opinions and feelings. It could be used to attract students’ motivation in the teaching and learning process, they can memorize much vocabularies and the students enjoy learning their material. This game moreover, can provokes students interaction between students to another student and students to teacher. The formulation of research problem was: How can the modified Zip Zap Game improve students’ speaking skill for the Seventh Grade at SMP Islam Al Azhaar Tulungagung? The purpose of this study was to know how Zip Zap Game can improve the students’ speaking skill for the Seventh Grade at SMP Islam Al Azhaar Tulungagung. This study belonged to Classroom Action Research (CAR) which was done in two cycles covering planning, implementation, observation and reflection. Each cycle of this study consisted of four meetings. The subjects of this research were the VII A grade students of SMP Islam Al Azhaar Tulungagung which consisted of 22 students. This study applied collaborative classroom action research between the researcher and English teacher. The research instruments used in this study were; observation sheet, interview guide, test and documentation (photo of students activities in classroom). The data of this study were the effects of applied game in the forms of teaching and learning process. The criteria of success of this research were the students’ speaking scores consisted of five aspects; content, language, pronounciation, fluency, performance are greater than or equal to 75, and the students’ participation in speaking activity and group working. Based on the result of observation and the analysis of the teaching and learning process in speaking by using Zip Zap Game in Cycle 1, it was found that most of the students’ speaking score were still low in speaking skill and the criteria of success have not been achieved yet. The implementation of the game in Cycle 1 was still needed to be revised and to be continued to the second Cycle. Based on the result of observation and the analysis of the teaching and learning process in speaking by using Zip Zap game in Cycle 2, it was found that most of the students got improvement in speaking skill. From the process of teaching and learning, it showed that the students paid attention well, they did the discussion well and they were not afraid while making mistakes in speaking English. Furthermore, they were not shy to perform in front of class. The students could speak well and their speaking score could reach the criteria of success. From the result of reflecting, it was found that 18 of students were successfull and the criteria of success could be achieved. Based on the result above, the students are hoped to be more active in learning English and they can improve their English speaking skill by using Zip Zap Game. The teacher also must be more creative and innovative to modify the game and also apply interesting game in teaching learning English process to make the students enjoy learning English skill in the classroom.
