Abstract

ABSTRACT Arif Budi Prasetyo. Register Number Student: 3213113049 .2015. Analysis of Content Validity in the English Final Examination in the MA Al Ma’arif. Thesis English Educational Progam. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Advisor : Ida Isnawati M.Pd. Keyword : Evaluation, Validity, Content Validity, Syllabus, Final Examination. One of the most important aspects of teaching learning process is evaluation. Evaluation and testing can not be separated with indonesia formal education. The evaluation as a systematic gathering of information for the purpose of making decision. The information here not only about the student’s improvement in achieving the learning goal but also with the accomplishment of teaching learning program in general. In the process of gathering information we need the instrument to collect information about the student to know the achievement of student, the student comprehension of the material that have been taught and to give the feed back for the student, teacher ,and curriculum designer. Validity is the most important consideration in developing and evaluating measuring instruments. Content validity is an essential source of evidence and should be analyzed in any process of test construction/adaptation. Content validity is very important in evaluation. Based on those reasons the researcher decided to conduct research about content validity in the final examination for tenth grade student of senior high school. The formulation of research problem were: 1) does the final examination test used at tenth grade of MA Al Ma’arif Tulungagung Valid in term of content ? 2) The purpose of the study were: 1) To know is the test item in the English final examination for tenth grade student that is used by MA Al Ma’arif are valid in term on content. 2) In this research belong to qualitative approach. the researcher use content analysis as the design of the research. The data collecting method used documentation to get the data from the test items in the English final examination of tenth grade student of senior high school that were used by MA Al Ma’arif. . The researcher use theory from Rico (2012:2) and Wiersma (1990:183) about content validity. The result of this study are the content validity of the test item of English final examination for tenth grade student that was used by MA Al Ma’arif in term of test item appropriate or not with standard competence are 94% valid. It is mean the test items are good. In other hand the content validity in term of covered or not all standard competence in the test items are 58,3% valid. It is mean sufficient. So, the teacher must give additional test item to cover the standard competence that were not covered in the test item. Based on the result of the study, the researcher wants to give suggestion for the teacher, student of English education program as the next teacher, and for future researcher. For teacher, Teacher must be aware with the content validity of test items. So, teacher must know and understand are all of standard competencies in the syllabus and know those standard competencies are covered or not in the test item. Teacher must know and understand about the test items that will be give to the student. Teacher must check the test items. Those are appropriate or not with standart competencies. Teacher must understand the test item is appropriate or not to test each skill of student. Teacher must give additional test item if there are standard competencies that are not covered in the test item. Teacher must give additional test items that appropriate to test student skill. For the student of English education program, As the next teacher, the student of English education program must know about how to evaluate student and about the validity, especially content validity. Content validity is very important in the evaluation. So, the student of English education program must study about evaluation and know well about validity of the test item. For future researcher, Validity is always an important part of evaluation. The researcher must develop their knowledge about the validity. So, people that interest with validity can learn deeply and clearly about validity especially content validity from the research.
