ABSTRACT Sangadah, Nila. Registered Number Student 3213113116. 2015.Using Word Search Puzzle Game for Improving Students’ Vocabulary Mastery at MTs Negeri Tulungagung in Academic Year 2014/2015. Thesis. English Education Program. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungang. Advisor: Arina Shofiya, M.Pd. Keyword: word search puzzle game, vocabulary mastery One of the games in teaching vocabulary is word search puzzle game. The game is useful for the students who find difficulties in memorizing vocabulary. In addition, the game is can help students’ who have problems in spelling vocabularies either in spoken or written form. Using word search puzzle is believe to help the teacher in teaching vocabulary and helps the students’ to acquire new vocabulary. The formulation of the research problems are (1) How is the students score in vocabulary before being taught using word search puzzle game?(2) How is the students score in vocabulary after being taught using word search puzzle game? (3) Is there any significant difference score of the students’ in vocabulary before and after being taught using word search puzzle game? The purposes of this research are to: (1) find out the students’ score before being taught using word search puzzle game, (2) find out the students’ score after being taught using word search puzzle game, (3) find out significant difference score before and after being taught using word search puzzle game. The research design was pre experimental with one group pretest and posttest design. The population of this research was all students of second grade at MTs Negeri Tulungagung. The sample was VIII B class consisting of 36 students through that were selected random sampling. The research instrument was test. The data analysis was t-test. The result showed that the were difference between the averages of students’ vocabulary score in which before they are taught using word search puzzle game 70.33 and after they were taught using word search puzzle game was 85.55. Statistical calculation using t-test showed that significance value <0.05, it is known that tcount is bigger than ttable. It means that Ha which state that there is significance effect of using word search puzzle game as a strategy to improve students’ vocabulary achievement of second grade students’ of MTs Negeri Tulungagung. Can be conclude that there is significant difference in vocabulary achievement between students’ before they were taught using word search puzzle game and after they were taught using word search puzzle game. So, using word search puzzle game can be used as an alternative to teach vocabulary to the students at MTs Negeri Tulungagung.
