Abstract

ABSTRACT Isnam, Novia Sanfa. Student Registered Number. 2813133089 "Students 'Perception Toward English Electronic Learning (E-Learning) During the COVID-19 Pandemic (A Study at Eighth Grade Students' of SMPN 1 Karangan in The Academic Year of 2020/2021)". Sarjana Thesis. English Education Departement. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. Stute Islamic institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. Dwi Astuti Wahyu Nurhayati., SS., M. Pd Keywords: e-Learning, perception, motivation This research is motivated by the current pandemic. What is being experienced by all citizens of the world, therefore the government implements online learning systems or what we usually hear "online learning". As we know, this has an impact on education in our country, especially in mountainous areas. In East Java, there are still many mountainous areas that are still inhabited. So that there are many problems that arise in online learning, including: constrained by signals, and many students do not understand the material. English is a subject whose material is not easy to understand. Teaching materials sent via cellphone are usually less attractive or seem boring because they are only in writing. So, that it makes children more interested in seeing other applications. Problems like this can be encountered in various regions, for example in the Karangan area. Here I take the example of SMPN 1 Karangan, where the school layout is next to a mountain. Another reason for choosing this school is because it is almost considered the best school in Karangan sub-district, almost all of its students always work on assignments that are submitted online The formulation of the reseacrh problem in this study is how are the students' perceptions of the application of English e-learning during the Covid-19 pandemic? How do the students motivate the application of English e-learning during the Covid-19 pandemic? This study is determines students' perceptions about the application of English e-learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. To find out students' motivation for the application of English e-learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. The results of this research are expected to be used theoretically and practically. Theoretically, it is hoped that the findings of this study can support and complement previous theories regarding the use of e-learning implementation for English learning. In practical terms, this study hopes that the findings of this study can be useful for e-learning learning and can be used as a learning medium for learning English. at the time of the Covid-19 pandemic. This means that students can use the e-learning system to study English material even though they can not attend in classes directly. For teachers, hopefully this research can provided inspiration or ideas for English teachers, especially in teaching through e-learning. Teachers can use e-learning as an alternative medium for teaching English without having to join the class directly. Then from the student's opinion, the teacher could understand how students understand the material conveyedix through e-learning, whether anyone understands it or not. This research conducted at SMPN 1 Karangan Trenggalek, with the research subject class VIIC. Make the observations by giving some questions that be asked. The analysis data shared online via the whatsshap group. Of the 31 students of class VIIC, 29 students responded. Based on the observations that have been made, first about the student's perceptions regarding the role of the teacher in explaining English material through E-Learning whether or not it is good, in this case the data obtained in the questionnaire shows the highest frequency with a percentage of 41.38% disagreeing with the question, and from In the first data, it can be concluded that according to students' perceptions, the delivery of material by teachers in learning English through E-Learning during the Covid-19 pandemic was less than optimal. This is because the teacher often gives assignments rather than delivering material. However, students' perceptions regarding the role of the teacher in delivering English material through E-Learning are in accordance with the syllabus or not. In this question, the researcher found the highest frequency with a percentage of 44.83% agreeing with the question given. This is also in line with the results of the interview, most students agree that the English material provided in electronic learning (e-learning) during the COVID-19 pandemic is in accordance with the syllabus, according to them it is in accordance with the syllabus because almost all the material provided by the teacher comes from LKS. After the research was carried out, there were several significant differences in elearning and face-to-face learning. Thus, this study can be a comparison of the teacher benchmarks for delivering learning
