Keywords: effectiveness, peer correction technique, writing recount text Writing recount text is one of the weaknesses for high school students because most of them got many errors or mistakes in their writing. It is because they practice writing rarely and not carefully scored in their writing. Thus, all students are expected to be careful in writing it and need concentration in order to write well by paying attention to the principles of writing recount text. To help the students solve the problems, the teacher must be creative in teaching and learning process. Teaching writing recount text by using peer correction technique is suitable. It also allows the teacher to check what the rest of the class knows. Hence, this research aims to knowing the effectiveness of using Peer Correction Technique towards students’ writing recount text at the first grade of MA Terpadu Al Anwar Durenan on academic year 2019/2020. The formulation of this research is: “Is peer coorection effective in teaching writing recount text at the first grade of MA Terpadu Al Anwar Durenan?” The purpose of this research is to test the theory whether the use of peer correction technique is effective or not towards students’ writing recount text ability at the first grade of MA Terpadu Al Anwar Durenan. This research used pre-experimental research design with quantitative approach. The population of this research is first grade of MA Terpadu Al Anwar Durenan on academic year 2019-2020. The sample of this research was X-A class which consist of 30 students chosen by purposive sampling technique. To collect the data, the researcher used research instrumentation in the form of test. To analyze the collected data, the researcher used SPSS 20.0 version software. The finding of this research showed that there is a significant difference between the score of pre-test and post-test. The mean of post-test was 78.83 and it is higher than the mean of pre-test (67.20), the difference mean is 11.67. It mean that there is an increasing score on the students’ achievement. From statistical calculation showed that p-value is 0.000 which is smaller than the a (0.05) given that the present test is one-tailed test, so the p-value (0.000) is divided by two (0.000/2) equals to 0. Since 0 is smaller than the a = 0.05, so the null hypothesis is rejected. In the other words, the hypothesis saying that the mean after the treatment is smaller than or equal to the one before the treatment is rejected. It automatically accepts the alternative hypothesis saying that the mean after the treatment is bigger than the one before the treatment. As the result, it could be concluded that the use of peer correction technique is effective or increasing the students’ writing recount text ability at the first grade of MA Terpadu Al Anwar Durenan. Finally, it is suggested that Peer Correction Technique can be used as the technique for English teacher in teaching and learning activity on writing recount text.
