English Education Department.Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Advisor: FaizatulIstiqomah, M.Ed. Key Words:Speech acts, Directive acts, Ordering, Requesting, Advising, Suggesting, Movie Language is a means of communication between the people in the world. In communication, in order to understand what the speaker says,we should need a context to know the intended meaning. As we know that in communication process happened speech acts.Speech act is the action via utterances. In speech acts, there is a directive actswhich isthose kinds of speech acts that speakers use to get someone else to do something. In this research, the researcher focused on the analysis of the directive acts used by the main characters in the movie script “Around the World in 80 Days” by Frank Coraci. The statement of the research problems are: (1) What are the directive acts uttered by the main characters in the movie script “Around the World in 80 Days” by Frank Coraci?(2)What are the intended meaning of the utterances of directive acts uttered by the main characters in the movie script “around the world in 80 days” by Frank Coraci ?.Therefore, the objectives of the research are: (1) To find out the types of directive acts uttered by the main characters in the movie script “Around the World in 80 Days” by Frank Coraci (2) To investigate the intended meaning of the utterances of directive acts uttered by the main characters in the movie script “around the world in 80 days” by Frank Coraci. In this research, the researcher used library research by approaching descriptive qualitative. In this case, the subject of this research is the movie script “Around the World in 80 Days” by Frank Coraci. The data of this research is the utterances that contain directive acts used by the main characters. In this research, the researcher used documentary technique to collect the data by getting the data from the movie script and the picture of movie “Around the World in 80 Days” by Frank Coraci.In addition, the researcher used theory of Searle that explains that illocutionary divided into five categories; (1) Representative acts (2) Directive acts (3) Expressive acts (4) Commissive acts (5) Declarative acts. This research showed two kinds of results; the first result showed that in the movie script “Around the World in 80 Days” by Frank Coraci was four types of directive acts; (1) Ordering (2) Requesting (3) Advising and (4) Suggesting.In this research, the researcher found 18 of ordering, 11 of requesting, 2 of advising and 2 of suggesting. The second result showed that in the movie script “Around the World in 80 Days” by Frank Coraci occur directive acts because there are some paradigm cases such as ordering, requesting, advisingand suggesting. Those are the result of the data analysis from this research. Therefore, by studying ix pragmatics especially speech acts, we can catch the intended meaning about what the speaker says.
