Keywords: Correlation, Vocabulary Mastery, Translation Ability English was foreign language taught in the world especially in Indonesia. Most of the sources of information including science books, news, and others were written in English. Therefore, students must be mastered four skills as listening, speaking, reading, and writing to master English. To support the acquiring the four skills, the learner should be able to master the English language components. One of them was vocabulary. Vocabulary was very important to learn. It has the function of understanding the message of a language and then translating it into other language. In the fact, translating from English into Indonesian was unavoidable process in teaching learning. The formulation of the research problem was “Is there any correlation between students’ vocabulary mastery and their English-Indonesian translation ability”. The purpose of the study was aimed to investigate the correlation among the vocabulary mastery and English-Indonesian translation ability. Research method in this study used correlational design with quantitative approach. The population was all of the seventh grade students at SMPN 1 Sumbergempol Tulungagung. Meanwhile, the sample took B class consisting of 32 students. The research instruments conducted through tests. Analyzing the data, it was analyzed by Pearson-Product Moment correlation using SPSS 16.0 program. The result of this research showed that the mean score of students’ vocabulary mastery was 67,34. This score was in the level 61-80. So, it can be said that students’ vocabulary mastery was very good categorization. Besides, the mean score of translation ability was 44,53. It was in the level 40-59 which lies in good categorization. The correlation value (r) between the vocabulary mastery and English-Indonesian translation ability appeared from the computation calculation done by SPSS 16.0 showed 0,632. Based on the interpretation table, the score lies in the interval 0,60–0,799. It means that the correlation of this research was high. Therefore, it implied “there is a correlation among the vocabulary mastery and English-Indonesian translation ability of seventh grade students at SMPN 1 Sumbergempol Tulungagung academic year 2014/2015”. Meanwhile, the significance of the correlation was found out by comparing the “rcount” and “rtable”. In point of fact, the “rcount” (0,000) was lower than the “rtable” showing (0, 349) in the level 5% and 1% (0,449) for df. 30. Since the value of “rcount” was lower than “rtable”, the correlation was significant. In sum, this result took a conclusion that the Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) stated that “there is positive correlation between students’ vocabulary mastery and their English-Indonesian translation ability was accepted; in contrast; the H0 was rejected.
