Keywords: Peer Assessment Through WhatsApp, Writing Recount Text Writing is one of the skills in English that has to be mastered. It is a process of transfering writer’s ideas of the writer into words and words onto paper. To make a good writing requires four steps that are planning, drafting, editing and final version. It is the most problem of the students to put their concept into writing form. One of the genre of writing is recount text. It tells the writer experience in the past and function to entertain the reader. Furthermore, ICT (Information and Communication Technology) or called social network is a crucial one in teaching and learning process nowadays. The positive effects of ICT in teaching and learning English are make easy learning process, possibility to motivate students and prepare the students for digital era. Then, as the implementation of social network is WhatsApp. In this research, the students use WhatsApp as the media to arguing and commenting their peer. The formulation of research question “Is there any significance difference score in writing recount text of the students taught by using peer assessment through WhatsApp and those taught by using a conventional peer assessment without using WhatsApp?”. The research design in this study was quasi experimental design with quantitative approach. Then, the population of this study was the first grade of students at SMA Negeri 1 Kauman Tulungagung. The samples involve X-MIPA 6 class as experimental group and X-IPS 3 as control group, each classes consist of 36 students. The research instrument is test. The technique of data analysis is T-test. The finding showed that the mean achievement of experimental group developed than the mean achievement of the control group. while, the mean achievement of experimental class was 71,97 and 67,33 for the mean of the control group. The t is 4,425, with the df = 70, and the p-value (two-tailed) was 0,000 and it is lower than 0,05 (0,000 < 0,05). So, the null hypothesis was rejected. In other words, the alternative hypothesis saying that there is a significance difference score in writing recount text of the students taught by using peer assessment through WhatsApp and those taught by using a conventional peer assessment without using WhatsApp is accepted. It means that there was significance difference score in writing in recount text of the students taught by using peer assessment through WhatsApp and those taught by using a conventional peer assessment without using WhatsApp at SMA Negeri 1 Kauman Tulungagung in academic year 2019/2020. Based on the result in the earlier, the using WhatsApp as the media to conduct peer assessment is more attractive and easily access everywhere not only at school. The teacher is suggested to combine social media as WhatsApp because it makes the students enjoy the learning and teching process specially in writing text recount.
