Abstract

ABSTRACT Kunhiyatun Nikmah, Siti, Student Registered Number, 17203153004, 2020 Teachers’ Perception And Their Practices In Using Portfolio Assessment Of Second Year At Mts Assyafi’iyah Gondang Tulungagung Sarjana Thesis. English Education Departement. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. Susanto, M.Pd The Keyword : Perception Portfolio Assessment, Implementation Assessment is the process of collecting data to measure the extent to which these objectives and use the collected information to make certain decisions. It is of necessity to know students’ progress of teaching and learning. This study aimed to investigate the use of a portfolio in the classroom at one of the junior high schools in Tulungagung, and to identify the difficulties faced by teachers and students in applying portfolio assessment. This research uses the case study research method. Data obtained through observation, questionnaires and interviews. Data were analyzed qualitatively. Qualitative data are used to describe the results of class interviews, questionnaires with teachers, and documentation to answer questions relating to the implementation of a portfolio in the classroom and to find teacher perceptions and applications by teachers. The formulation of the problems in this study are: 1) How is the teacher's perception of using portfolio assessment in the second year class at Mts Assyafi'iyah Gondang, 2) How is the implement of teachers in using portfolio assessment in the second year class at Mts Assyafi'iyah Gondang? The results of the interview indicate that the teacher has carried out several stages in the process of implementing the portfolio. The stages are determining the purpose or theme, introducing and showing examples of the portfolio, determining the contents of the portfolio, developing an appropriate assessment system, providing assessment and input to students. Data from observation shows that teachers carry out self-assessments which are an important aspect of the portfolio and this is supported by data from interviews that state that selfassessments are used to gain students' understanding of their own weaknesses and strengths. Data from the questionnaire indicates that the teacher has a positive response to the implement of the portfolio. The teacher can assess students not only with regard to students learning outcomes, but include the learning process. Thus, the assessment conducted by the teacher was not only through test but in various ways and aspect so that the results of the assessment can reflect the student efforts and abilities that are actually and in the most objective and authentic way. In its application, the teacher uses the portfolio not only as the final result of the work but also as an English learning implementation.
