Keywords : Writing Achievement, Effectiveness, Collaborative Writing, Google Docs, Recount Text Writing skill is known as productive skill in English Language. It is the proces to gather ideas and convey the language into a written form. Writing is called the most difficult among other skill in English Language skill. It is caused in writing there are many aspects that fulfilled, such as : content, organization, vocabulary, language use, mechanic, etc.. It is that make the students often make errors in learning writing skill. Beside that, in writing there are many steps that have to be done by the students, starting from planning, drafting, editing (reflection and revising), and final versions. So, the teacher teaches the students should use a good technique, especially in learning writing. Google Docs is one of media to teach writing especially in collaborative writing. Colaborative writing in Google Docs is believed to contribute in improving students’ writing achievement. It is caused the students could discuss their idea and could train their communication skill between the group members. Beside that, collaborative writing on Google Docs might help the students continue the process of discussion outside the classroom. The students also can help each other to solve writing problem, such as : content, organization, vocabulary, language use, mechanic, etc.. The research problem of this research is “Is there any significant difference for students’ writing achievement on recount text between the students who are taught by using Google Docs on collaborative writing activity and those who are taught by using group investigation?”. This research is aimed to find out the significant difference for students’ writing achievement on recount text who are taught by using Google Docs on collaborative writing activity and those who are taught by using group investigation. The research method of this study is quasy-experimental to achieve research objective. This samples of this research were VIII-A class as experimental class that consist of 26 students and VIII-C class as control class that consist of 26 students also. So, the total samples of two classes were 52 students. There were four meetings for each class including pre-test, twice treatments, and post test. In calculating the data in this research, the researcher used SPSS 16.0 version for windows. The result of this research showed there was a significance difference for students’ writing achievement on recount text who are taught by using Google Docs collaborative writing activity and who are taught by using group investigation. It could be seen the from post test showed the result of mean scorein experimental class was 76.3462 and in control class was 72.1154. P-value (two-tailed) is 0.064 and divided to 2 because the researcher used one-tailed test 0.064 / 2 = 0.032, the significance level is 0.05 (α = 5%). Because 0.032 smaller than the significance level 0.05 (α =5%), the null hypothesis is rejected and the alternative hypothesis is accepted which say that the mean score of experimental class was higher than mean score in control class. So, the conclusion is Google Docs on collaborative writing was effective to teach writing recount text at SMPN 1 Suruh Trenggalek.
