Abstract

The Effectiveness of ThinkTalkWrite Strategy Toward Students’ Ability in Writing Procedure Text at 9th Grade Students of MTs Fathul Hidayah Pangean Lamongan. Sarjana Thesis. Advisor: Faizatul Istiqomah, M.Ed Keywords: Writing Ability, ThinkTalkWrite Strategy, Procedure Text. Writing is one of four skills of learning English which have to be mastered by the students. Moreover, writing is the result of organizing ideas in mind into written form. It is different from reading or listening where someone only received an information. There are some strategies that can be used in teaching writing especially in writing procedure text. One of the strategies is ThinkTalkWrite strategy. The ThinkTalkWrite strategy is a cooperative learning mode to make teaching and learning process more manageable. The formulation of the research question was: Is there any significant different scores in writing procedure text between the students taught and not taught by using ThinkTalkWrite strategy? This research aimed to know whether there is significant difference score in writing procedure text between the students taught and not taught by using ThinkTalkWrite strategy. In this research, the researcher used quasiexperimental research design with two groups as the subject of the research. The first group as control group and the second one as experimental group. The population of this research were all of ninth grade students at MTs Fathul Hidayah Pangean Lamongan. The samples in this research were IX A Class that consisted of 24 students and IX B Class that consisted of 25 students. The research instrument in this research was test. The researcher used Independent Sample Ttest formula by using SPSS program 16.0 version to analyze the data. The finding showed that ThinkTalkWrite strategy was effective to be used in teaching writing especially in writing procedure text. The effectiveness of using ThinkTalkWrite strategy can be shown in the following points: 1) the mean score of students on pretest taught by using ThinkTalkWrite strategy was 51.75, and the mean score of posttest was 77.29. The gain of the mean score was 25.54. 2) the mean score of students on pretest taught without using ThinkTalkWrite strategy was 50.60, and the mean score of posttest was 66.72. The gain of the mean score was 16.12. 3) the result of Ttest at significance level of 0.05 showed that the significant values (sig2 tailed) was 0.000, and it has to be divided into two since we have onetailed test (0.000 : 2 = 0.000). Since 0.000 was smaller than 0.05 (0.00 < 0.05). The result means that there is significant different score in writing procedure text between the students taught and not taught by using ThinkTalkWrite strategy. Thus, ThinkTalkWrite strategy can be used as alternative strategy in teaching writing especially in writing procedure text.
