Abstract

ABSTRACT Wulandari, Yuliana Eka (17203163121). The Implementation of Participation Point System in Teaching English to the Tenth Grade Students of MAN 1Trenggalek. A Thesis of English Education Department, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic (IAIN) of Tulungagung 2020. Advisor: Dr. Hj.Ida Isnawati, M.Pd.. Keywords: Participation Point System, Student Participation, Teaching English Student passiveness can be seen as student involvement in learning activities. When students are passive, they will isolate themselves in class interactions. To motivate students who are passive to be active, the Participation Point System (PPS) can be implemented as one solution. The focus of this research are (1) How the implementation of the participation point system in teaching English to tenth grade student of MAN 1Trenggalek (2) What are advantages of the implementation of participation point system in teaching English for tenth grade students of MAN 1Trenggalek (3) What are disadvantages of the implementation of participation point system in teaching English to tenth grade students of MAN 1Trenggalek. As the objectives of this research are (1) Finding the implementation of participation point system in teaching English to tenth grade students of MAN 1Trenggalek (2) Identifying the advantages the implementation of participation point system in teaching English to tenth grade students of MAN 1Trenggalek (3) Identifying the disadvantages the implementation of participation point system in teaching English to the tenth grade students of MAN 1Trenggalek. This study used qualitative research with type of case study research design. The research was conducted at MAN 1Trenggalek. In collecting data, the researcher used the method of observation, interviews and documentation. The analysis used descriptive analysis techniques. The results of this study were as follows: (1) the participation point system was implemented by the teacher through three stages, namely planning, preparation and implementation. In planning the teacher doing (a) getting idea related to what the participation point system (b) arranging lesson plan (c) plan the assessment (d) plan the standard points to be used. In the preparation the teacher doing (a) preparing the media to be used (b) preparing how students are able to speak by forming small discussions. In the implementation the teacher did (a) giving an overview related to the material to be taught (b) giving questions (c) using the media. (2) The advantages the implementation of participation point system are (a) students become excited and enthusiastic (b) students become more active (c) students become more confident and braver. (3) The disadvantages the implementation of participation point system are (a) passive student’s difficulty to get points (b) the teacher has obstacles in preparing and implementing the participation point system
