English Education Department. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Advisor: Dr. Hj. Nanik Sri Rahayu, M.Pd. Keywords: Effectiveness, Memrise Application, Phrasal Verbs Mastery. Phrasal verbs is one of important aspects in learning English. Not only found in written text, but also phrasal verbs are commonly used in everyday spoken. Especially for phrasal verbs mastery, most students has limited phrasal verbs, and difficult understanding phrasal verbs because they cannot distinguish the use and the meaning. Therefore, the students have problem in memorizing. The students found using Memrise enjoyable and convenient, and therefore it would be a useful tool in teaching vocabulary (Louis, 2016). This application has varying features and used drill and practice method. Based on the previous studies, it showed that after have been taught by using Memrise application students has good result. The formulation of the research problem: Is there any significant differences on the students’ phrasal verbs mastery with and without being taught by using Memrise application to the first grade at SMAN 1 Gondang Tulungagung? The objective of the research is to investigate the effectiveness of using Memrise application on the students’ phrasal verbs mastery of the first grade at SMAN 1 Gondang Tulungagung. Research Method: 1) research design of this study was Quasi-experimental with quantitative approach, the researcher used quasi-experimental research design to know whether there is any significant differences of the students’ phrasal verbs mastery with and without using Memrise application. 2) the population of this study was the students of the first grade at SMAN 1 Gondang Tulungagung, 3) the sample of this study were X MIPA 1 as control group and X MIPA 3 as experimental group, 4) the instrument of this study was test, namely pre-test and post-test 5) the data analysis used Independent Sample T-Test, to check the difference between students’ mean scores. It can be conclude that Memrise application more effective, interesting and innovative than conventional method in teaching learning English phrasal verbs Because it is makes students more enjoyable, fun, enthusiastic, and motivated in the teaching learning process. However the achievement in experimental group was higher than control group. The result of the experimental group who taught by using Memrise application, the mean of pre-test was 60.77 and the mean of post-test was 74.97. The control group who taught by using conventional method, the mean of pre-test was 62.67 and the mean of post-test was 66.13. The result of T-test the significant (sig-2 tailed) is lower than significant level (0.002 < 0.05). In other words, H0 was rejected and Hα was accepted. It means that there was any significant effect of using Memrise Application on the students’ phrasal verbs mastery of the first grade at SMAN 1 Gondang Tulungagung. It is suggested that the teachers can use Memrise as an alternative media to teach English phrasal verbs.
