Keywords: Duolingo Application, Vocabulary Learning vocabulary is the most important part of learning english. Improving vocabulary is a fundamental part of learning, because vocabulary plays an important role in learning English. When speaking the students cannot communicate well if they lack of vocabulary, in reading students may not understand the text they are reading, and in writing students may have difficulty conveying the ideas they have. The Duolingo application is an learning media that can help to increase students’ interest in learning vocabulary and Duolingo application is an application that can improve students’ vocabulary. This research was conducted with the following problem: "how the application duolingo can improve student vocabulary" The purpose of this study is to improve students' vocabulary. Grade X-A MA At-Thohiriyah students take the school year 2019/2020 with using the Duolingo application. This study used Classroom Action Research (CAR). It was adapted from the Kemmis and McTaggart models. The study was conducted in two cycles, each cycle including planning, implementation, observation and reflection. The subjects in this study were tenth grade-A students at MA At-Thohiriyah Ngantru which consisted of 17 students. This research was conducted from 7 February 2020 until 6 March 2020. The instrument used to obtained data was vocabulary test on preliminary study, cycle 1, cycle 2. Analyze data from the field notes were used to determine student attitudes and class conditions when applied the Duolingo application. Student grade data was obtained from the vocabulary test. Vocabulary test was done to analyze the students' ability to improve vocabulary taken from tests given to students. The value was used to assess students in improve vocabulary. The results of this test, there were an improve in student test resulted and accordate to the criteria of success. This technique could be said to successful if when the requirements criteria success which included two aspects, the resulted of the test 80% of students got score with the given standart 70. The value of students in cycle 2 increased than preliminary study and cycle 1. In preliminary study, there were (35%) who successfully passed the test, in cycle 1 there were (70%) who passed the test, and in cycle 2 there were (88%) who successfully passed test. The main factor influencing this increased was because students' interested in learning increased and they learn vocabulary even more seriously using the Duolingo application. They were more enthusiastic and gave positive responses during the learning process. This can be seen in the resulted of student tests in cycle 2. There were 15 students (88%) who are interested in the duolingo application, and got a good grade. The results of this study showed that the Duolingo application can improve student vocabulary and increase students' understanding of vocabulary. In addition, it can be seen an increase in students' understanding vocabulary from the comparison of results in preliminary studies and cycle 2, in cycle 2 students' vocabulary test results can be improved. The discussion made easier for students to use the Duolingo application to improve students’ vocabulary. ,So, it can be concluded that the Duolingo application can be used to improve vocabulary for grade XA students at MA At - Thohiriyah School year 2019/2020. Then, it is recommended for English teachers to apply the duolingo application as an effective media for vocabulary teaching. For students, the application can help them to improve vocabulary more easily. In addition to other researchers, it is advisable to inform and develop this topic more broadly.
