The Effect of Think-Talk-Write (TTW) Strategy on Students’ Writing Descriptive Text Ability of the Tenth Grade Students at MAN 1 Tulungagung in the Academic Year 2019/2020. A Thesis of English Education Department, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, State Islamic (IAIN) of Tulungagung 2020. Advisor : Dr. Susanto, SS., M.Pd. Keywords :Think-Talk-Write Strategy, Writing Ability, Descriptive Text. Descriptive text is one of the kinds of writing that insiststhe students to have ability in describing an object in details. Besides,the students should have ability to use varitykind of vocabulary to develop ideas and the ability to construct sentences in good grammatical orders and also the students’ ability to write sentencesusing proper good punctuations. To facilitate the students to master those aspects in writing descriptive text,the teaching of writing descriptive text should be interesting. One of the ways how to create an interesting teaching learning process in writing descriptive texts by using an appropiate strategy. One of the strategies is Think-Talk-Write (TTW). This study was done to prove or to verify whether Think-Talk-Write (TTW) is effective used to improve students’ writing descriptive text ability. The purpose of this study was to know significant difference score on writing descriptive text of the tenth grade students at MAN 1 Tulungagung taught by using Think-Talk-Write (TTW) Strategy and those taught by using a conventional strategy. Research methods of this study was using quasi-experimental design with two group pre-test and pos-test. The population in this study was tenth grade students at MAN 1 Tulungagung. The sample in this study were 64 students chosen through purposive sampling technique. Quantitative data was taken from students’ writing descriptive text. Reseach instrument of this study administering pre-test and post-test from the two classes are analyzed statistically by using T-test and effect size. Method of data analysis usedcomputing statistical in the form of independent T-tesby using spss 16.0 for windows to analyze the data. Hypothesis in this study showed that Null Hypothesis (HO) was rejected and Alternative Hypothesis (Ha)was accepted, because p-value <sig α (0.011 < 0.05). Besides, the effect size was also calculated to acknowledge the level of effectiveness by using the Cohens’ dformula. The result of the effect size value was 0.67, which indicated that Think-Talk-Write (TTW) Strategy was moderately effective to improve students’ writing descriptive text ability. Based on the results of the independent sample T-test and effect size value it was that found there was significance different score on writing descriptive text of the students taught by using Think-Talk-Write (TTW) and those taught by using a conventional strategy. That is why the Null Hypothesis (HO) saying that there is no significant difference score on writing descriptive text of the tenth grade students at MAN 1 Tulungagung taught by using Think-Talk-Write (TTW) strategy and those taught by using a conventional methodwas rejected and Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) saying thatthere is significant difference score on writing descriptive text of the tenth grade students at MAN 1 Tulungagung taught by using Think-Talk-Write (TTW) strategy and those taught by using a conventional methodwas accepted.Hence, Think-Talk-Write (TTW ) strategy is effective used to improve students’ writing descriptive text at MAN 1 Tulungagung in the academic year 2019/2020. Based on the finding it is suggested for the teacher to use Think-Talk-Write (TTW)strategy asone of the alternative strategies used in teaching writing expecially descriptive text.
