Keywords: correlation, film, narrative text The narrative text is a story tells us about something interesting that has purpose to amuse, entertain for the readers or viewers. You are using narrative when you tell a friend about something interesting that happen to you at work or at school, when you tell someone a joke. The social function of the text is to entertain reader or listener with the fictive or non-fictive experience. Beside the purpose, it is also deal with problematic or unusual events. Writing will be easier if stimulated from the outside through the five senses. Film is a form of entertainment that enacts a story by a sequence of images giving the illusion of continuous movement. Film can be an effective media in teaching learning process because it stimulates students both receptive skills (listening and reading) and productive skills (speaking and writing). In fact, film can fulfill different function for learners at different level of proficiency. For beginning learners it can provide examples of authentic language use in limited context of use. The formulation of the research problems was: 1) Is there any significant correlation between rewriting story through movie and their writing ability in writing narrative text of the ten grade students?, 2) Does rewriting story trough movie significantly relation to their writing ability in writing narrative text of the ten grade students? The purpose of this research was to: 1) To find out whether there is a significant correlation between rewriting story through movie and their writing ability in writing narrative text of the ten grade students, 2) To find out whether rewriting story trough movie significantly influence their writing ability in writing narrative text of the ten grade students. Research method: 1) the researcher uses quantitative approach and the design employed is correlational research, 2) the population of this research was the first graders of SMK 1 PGRI Tulungagung in academic year 2018/2019, 3) 44 students from class X AK-1 as the sample, 4) the research instrument was test and documentation, 5) the data analysis was using mean score and Pearson product moment correlation. The result showed that the mean score of narrative writing test is 66. This mean score is in the level 60 up to 70. So, it can be said that the students’ narrative writing test score is fair. The mean score of rewriting story ability test is 71. This mean score is in the level 70 up to 80. So, it can be said that the students’ ability in rewriting narrative story text is good. The correlation coefficient equaled r = 0.663, which indicated that there was positive correlation between two variables. This research was positive correlation because the variables had same moderate score, if the subjects had low score in narrative writing test, they also had score in rewriting story ability test. Concerning the null hypothesis, this research reveals that the null hypothesis is rejected because the SPSS 25.0 calculation shows that the Sig is 0.000. As already known, the null hypothesis is rejected if the significance is less than 0.05. The hypothesis testing conclude that N. Sig < 0.05, where H0 can’t be rejected. It means that both students’ rewriting story ability and their achievement in writing narrative text are correlate.
