Keyword: Effectiveness, Question Answer Relationship Strategy (QAR), Narrative text. Nowadays, the usability of English language increased with purposes of communication and information. This makes learning English language to be required especially for students. Reading is one of four important skills that should be learnt by people when they study English. Moreover people can get the information widely by reading a lot. Since English starts to be taught in content subjects, most senior high school students get difficulty in reading, especially in narrative text which is used in content area reading. English teachers are hoped to choose an appropriate strategy in their teaching process. QuestionAnswer Relationship (QAR) is the example of strategies which can be implemented in teaching EFL students in reading class. The study was done to verify whether Question-Answer Relationship (QAR) was effective used in teaching reading narrative text or not. The formulation of research problem was “Is Question Answer Relationship Strategy effective on the students’ reading comprehension of narrative text at the first grade students of MAN 1 Trenggalek?”. The research design of this study was Pre-experimental with quantitative approach. And the population of this study was the first grade students’ of MAN 1 Trenggalek. The sample were X MIPA 5 class consisted 35 students. The research instrument was test, and the data analysis was using T-test. The finding showed that Question-Answer Relationship (QAR) was effective used in teaching reading narrative text at the first grade of MAN 1 Trenggalek. The effectiveness of Question-Answer Relationship (QAR) can be shown in the following points: first, the mean score of pre-test was 65.71 and the mean score of post-test was 73.14. Second, the result of t-test at significance level of 0.05 showed that the significant values (sig-2 tailed) was 0.00 smaller than 0.05 (0.00<0.05). The result means that there is significant different in reading comprehension narrative text of the students’ taught by using Question-Answer Relationship (QAR) Strategy.
