The Effectiveness of Cooperative Script to Improve Students Reading Comprehension of the first grade students at MA Hasanuddin Siraman in The Academic Year 2018/2019 . Thesis. Keywords: Effectiveness, Cooperative Script, Reading Comprehension. Mastering Reading could be the English skill for success in educational context. Through reading, students can get new information and knowledge. In improving the student’s achievement, the teacher has an important role in teaching reading. The teacher should be creative in finding better technique to deliver the materials. Therefore, Cooperative Script technique is one strategy which can be used to solve the problems in understanding narrative text on reading comprehension. The formulation of the research problem was “ Is there any significant different score in the student’s reading comprehension skill between being taught with and without using cooperative Script at the first grade of MA Hasanuddin Siraman in the academic year 2018/2019.” The research design of this study was quasi experimental design with quantitative approach. The population is the first grade students of MA Hasanuddin Siraman. The number of the population was 90 students. In taking the sample, the researcher used purposive sampling. XIPS class was chosen as a control group consisted of 30 students and XIPA 1 as an experimental group consisted of 30 students. The data were gathered through test which were delivered into the pre-test and post-test. The data analysis was using Independent Sample t-test by using Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) 23.00. The result showed that the students’ mean score in experimental group before being taught using Cooperative Script Technique was 59.67 and the students’ mean score after being taught using Cooperative Script Technique by was 80.00. In the control group also there is improvement mean score from 53.67 became 60.33. However, the improvement in experimental group was higher than control group. In addition, the result of the statistical computation used Independent Sample t-test with SPSS 23.00, showed that the significance value is 0.00. It means that the significance value is smaller than the significance level (0.00 < 0.05). The result of significance value indicates that the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. It means there was a significant effect of using Cooperative Script Technique on students’ achievement in reading comprehension in MA Hasanuddin Siraman. Therefore, the use of Cooperative Script Technique on reading ability of narrative text is effective to improve students’ reading comprehension.
