ABSTRACT Fikriyah, Shoimatul. NIM. 17203153024. 2019. The Effect of Using Cooperative Script Method toward Students’ Speaking Ability at The First Grade of MA Hasanuddin Siraman Blitar. Thesis. English Education Department. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Advisor; Dr. Arina Shofiya, M.Pd. Keywords: Effect, Cooperative Script Method, Speaking Ability Students’ difficulties to express their idea have become a serious problem in English learning process, especially in speaking ability. Actually, there are many students get problems in learning speaking such as a feeling of difficulty to catch the main point when the teacher speaks, feeling of difficulty to understand part of speech, the students motivation to speak, less participate in classroom and having a lack of vocabulary. To overcome the problem in learning speaking, the writer used Cooperative Script Method in teaching and learning process. The formulation of the research problem was “Is there any significant effect or difference score in speaking of the students taught by using Cooperative Script Method and those taught without using Cooperative Script Method”. Research method: 1) the research design of this study was Quasi experimental with quantitative approach, 2) the population of this study was the first grade students of MA Hasanuddin Siraman Blitar, 3) the sample were X-MIPA class consisted of 26 students and X-IIS class consisted of 22 students, 4) the research instrument was test, 5) the data analysis was using T-test. The finding showed that Cooperative Script Method was effective used in teaching speaking at the first grade of MA Hasanuddin Siraman Blitar. The effect of Using Cooperative Script Method can show in the following points: 1) the mean score of students on pre-test taught by using Cooperative Script Method was 62.81, and the mean score of post-test was 86.81. 2) the mean score of students on pre-test taught without using Cooperative Script Method was 60.05, and the mean score of post-test was 62.82. 3) the result of t-test at significance level of 0.05 showed that the significant values (sig-2 tailed) was 0.00 smaller than 0.05 (0.00 < 0.05). the result means that there is significant different in speaking ability of the students taught by using Cooperative Script Method and those taught without using Cooperative Script Method.
