Keywords: Assertive and Directive Acts, English Translation of Surah Luqman, Dr. Mustafa Khattab Language plays an important role in life. According to Chris Livaccari—a senior advisor for Asia Society's China Learning Initiatives—in his new book New Ways of Seeing, makes an eloquent case for language learning as more than just communication. It is also, he argues, a means to enhance and deepen students' capacity for processing information and analyzing the shape of the world, such as the Holy Guidance Book, the Quran. The fact that it has been translated into various languages in the world, especially in English, makes it easier to get deeper understanding of it. The Quran itself is containing a huge number of difficult and archaic words with wide range of contextual meaning. The statements of the research problem were “what are the types of assertive acts found in the English translation of Surah Luqman by Dr. Mustafa Khattab?” and “what are the types of directive acts found in the English translation of Surah Luqman by Dr. Mustafa Khattab?”. Then, the purpose of this research was to find out the types of assertive and directive acts found in the English translation of Surah Luqman by Dr. Mustafa Khattab. In this study, the researcher used descriptive qualitative research method. The data of this research are utterances found in the English translation text of Surah Luqman by Dr. Mustafa Khattab containing assertive and directive acts. This research used documentary technique to collect data. The result of this research showed that there are total 8 types of assertive acts, those are 8 data of assuring, 5 data of informing, 4 data of stating, 4 data of claiming, 2 data of reminding, 1 datum of disclaiming, 1 datum of criticizing, and 1 datum of affirming. The type that the most frequently appears is assuring. As for the directive acts, the researcher also found 8 types of it, those are 4 data of ordering, 3 data of forbidding, 3 data of asking, 2 data of advising, 2 data of warning, 2 data of telling. 1 datum of urging, 1 data of commanding. The type that the most frequently appears is ordering.
