ABSTRACT Wahyuni, Murti Sri. Student Registered Number. 172314318.Mathematics Students’ Perception on Their Learning Needs in Learning English at IAIN Tulungagung. Sarjana Thesis. English Education Department.Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. State Islamic Institution (IAIN) of Tulungagung. Advisor: Faizatul Istiqomah, M.Ed. Keywords: need analysis, student need, ESP English as a foreign language is a compulsory subject in university curriculum. It is known as English for Specific Purposes (ESP) taught for students in different departments at universities. It is expected that the students can develop their English to support their academic life and prepare them for future job.In educational setting, a learners’ needs analysis helps students to identify where they are in term of their knowledge, skills, and competences, versus where they wish to be and their learning goals.Therefore, the researcher wanted to investigate English learning process in Matematics students at IAIN Tulungagung. Based on the explanation above the researcher decided to conduct a study about the Mathematics students’ perception on their learning need in learning English at IAIN Tulungagung. The research problems are : 1) How do mathematics students perceive their target need through learning English for mathematics? 2) How do mathematics students perceive their learning need through learning English for mathematics? The purposes of this study were to: 1) Investigate how Mathematics students’ perception on the target need at IAIN Tulungagung. 2) To know Mathematics student’s perception on the learning need at IAIN Tulungagung. The research design of this research was descriptive qualitative. Descriptive design was used in this research because it was aimed at describing mathematics students’ perception on the learning need in English. In this research, the researcher used questionnaire and interview in collecting the data. In this research data was the result of questionnaires and informants’ utterances containing explanation about learning need in English for mathematics student. The result of this study showed that based on students’ perception 1) The target needs of Mathematics students were be able to understand some references written in English, preparing for TOEFL test, and increase their proficiency as well as English student. 2) The learning needs of Mathematics student was the material that was required the degree of competences of mathematics student at IAIN Tulungagung.
