Speaking is very important to people especially for Students. One interesting technique that can make the students feel enjoy in speaking class is Fishbowl Technique. Fishbowl Technique is an effective way to engage students’ participation during speaking classroom activities. The students tend to be more active because the have a chance to think, talk, and respond. The students are allowed to produce their ideas and share their existing knowledge to the other students. Fishbowl technique is a group speaking activities both teaching and testing can be used to provide an opportunity for meaningful and active involvement. Furthermore, by using this method, the students will have a chance to speak English with the others. The statement of the research problem can be stated as follows: 1) How is the implementation of Fishbowl Technique to improve the second grade students’ speaking ability at MTsN 2 Tulungagung? The objective of this study as follow : 1) To investigate whether teaching using fishbowl technique to improve the second grade students’ speaking ability at MTsN 2 Tulungagung. The research design used was Classroom Action Research (CAR) by Kemmis and Taggar. The participants were the students of eighth of MTsN 2 Tulungagung in academic year 2018/2019. The researcher collaborated with the English teacher to apply the Fishbowl Technique to teach speaking to students of VIII-H MTsN 2 Tulungagung. The data of the preliminary study, cycle I, and cycle II shown that the students’ speaking skill improved. Assessed by scoring rubric, see the criteria of succes in appendix. In the preliminary study, there were 22 students could not reach passing grade, and 14 students got good score. It means, there were 38,8% students got success. Then in cycle I, there were 14 students could not reach the passing grade, and 22 students passed. It means, there were 61,1% students got success. This had not fulfilled the standard criteria of this research, that was 75% from the total students. Based on the reflection of cycle 1, the researcher conducted cycle 2. In cycle II, revealed that there were 6 students could not reach the passing grade, and 30 students reach the passing grade. It means, there were 83% students got success. So, there were increase score from preliminary study, test of cycle 1, cycle 2. Studying from the result, it can be concluded that the implementation of fishbowl technique could improve students’ ability in speaking. Furthermore, it is suggested to the students to use fishbowl technique to learn speaking. The teacher also must be more creative and innovative in teaching in the classroom. Based on the result of research finding and discussion, the researcher concluded that the students’ speaking ability and their involvement in the class could be improved by using fishbowl technique. This improvement was showed from the students’ test result from preliminary study to cycle one, and cycle one to cycle two. Their progress was not only can be seen from their speaking score, it also can be seen from their motivations during the process of teaching and learning.
