Keywords: Effectiveness, Grammarly checker, Writing Quality. Writing is one of English skills that should be mastered by the students of English Education Department. However, among the four skills, writing becomes a difficult skill to be mastered. As the result, the students of English Education Department usually face some difficulties in writing, besides finding the ideas and organizing them into statements and paragraphs, they often do some mistakes, such as grammatical error, wrong spelling, wrong punctuation, etc. that can affect on their writing quality. Therefore, they need grammar checker as a tool to identify language errors in their writing. Grammarly is a good checker to help the students to identify language errors in their writing. It can easily fix spelling mistakes, grammar mistakes and other punctuation mistakes like an apostrophe, comma, etc.The formulation of the research problem was: Is there any significant difference between students’ writing quality that indicated with correct spelling, grammatically correct, correct punctuation, correct sentence structure and style before and after using Grammarly checker. The objective of this research was to find out if there is any significant different score of the students’ writing quality between students who use and do not use Grammarly checker of the fourth semester students of English department at IAIN Tulungagung. The research design of this research was quasi experimental design with quantitative approach. The population of this research was the the fourth semester students of English department at IAIN Tulungagung. The samples of this research were TBI A class as control group consisting of 42 students and TBI B class as experimental group consisting of 41 students. The research instrument was in the form of writing test. The data analysis was using Independent Sample t-test by using Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) 16.0 program. The result shows that the students’ mean score in experimental group before use Grammarly checker was 63.78 and the students’ mean score after use Grammarly checker was 80.49. In the control group there is also an improvement mean score from 68.57 became 73.57. However, the improvement in experimental group was higher than control group. In addition, the result of the statistical computation used Independent Sample t-test with SPSS 16.0 program, showed that the significance value is 0.00. It means that the significance value is smaller than the significance level (0.00 < 0.05). The result of significance value indicates that the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. It means there was a significant effect of using Grammarly checker towards students’ writing quality of the fourth semester of English department at IAIN Tulungagung.
