Exchanging idea, message, and thought are the activities of communication. However, expressing an idea, assumption, or message and understanding it either in written or spoken is not easy, especially for EFL students. Hence, before they are able to understand the idea, they have to understand how to translate the words of the idea. But sometimes, EFL students gets difficult when they are translating the messages or ideas. Especially when they found some words or phrases that cannot be translated by individual words. This kind of sentence or expression which cannot be translated individually is called idiomatic expressions. In any case, idiomatic expressions are very important to be learned by EFL students. The formulation of research problems are: 1) what are the types of idiomatic expression used in ‘Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire’ by J.K. Rowling? 2) what are the meanings of the idiomatic expressions used ‘Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire’ by J.K. Rowling? 3) what are the classifications of idiomatic expression used ‘Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire’ by J.K. Rowling based on its analyzability?. The purposes of this study are: 1) to classify the types of idiomatic expression used in ‘Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire’ by J.K. Rowling, 2) to find out the meaning of the idiomatic expressions used in ‘Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire’ by J.K. Rowling, 3) to find out the classifications of idiomatic expression used in ‘Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire’ by J.K. Rowling based on its analyzability. In this research, the design of the research is library research that applies the content analysis method with qualitative approach. The data of this research is in the form of phrases and sentences which contains idiomatic expressions. The data source of this study is taken from 755 pages of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire novel of J.K. Rowling. To support the analysis, the writer uses some dictionaries of idioms and other related references. The writer also uses some theories related to idiomatic expression and its definition. To find the words or phrases of idiom, the writer selects idiomatic expression from the novel. Then, the writer analyzes the data through the perspective of types of idiom, classifications of idioms and the interpretation of idioms.As a result of the analysis, there are 73 kinds of idiom in the novel. All of the idioms are sought the type of idiom, the meaning of the idiom and the classifications of the idiom. There are eight types of idiomatic expression which are analyzed in the novel, they are simile, proverb, euphemism, binomial, trinomial, cliché, fixed statement, and other languages. But, in this research, the researcher only found six types of it, they are; 2 idiomatic expressions of simile, 6 idiomatic expressions of binomial, 0 idiomatic expression of trinomial, 1 idiomatic expression of proverb, 17 idiomatic expressions of euphemism, 42 idiomatic expressions of cliché, 5 idiomatic expressions of fixed statement, and 0 idiomatic expressions of other languages. And, in the classifications of the idiomatic expression, there are three classifications of analyzability found, those are analyzability opaque, analyzability transparent, quasi metaphorical. From 73 data of idiomatic expressions, the data are divided into three as follows; 33 analyzability opaque, 39 analyzability transparent, 1 quasi metaphorical.
