Abstract

English in International language, as one of tools in communication. The students expected to master several skills of language one of them is speaking skill. Most students of Junior High School have some problems and difficulties in their speaking skill. They seem confused and do not confident when they want to talk about something. The teachers should have an appropriate method to support teaching process and learning speaking for the students. Bamboo Dancing choosen as one of the methodhelps the students easier and interesting during practice speaking. The students are divided into two large group and standing face to face after they did discussion. So, every student has more opportunity to practice speaking and share their information. The formulation of the research problem is: “Is there any significant difference on the student’s speaking achievement before and after being taught by using Bamboo Dancing method to seventh grade students at MTs Assyafi’iyah Gondang Tulungagung?”. The purpose of this research is to find out whether the use of Bamboo Dancing method is effective to use in teaching speakingor not. This research used pre-experimental design with quantitative approach. The population of this research was seven grade students at MTs Assyafi’iyah Gondang Tulungagung. The sample of this research was seven B class which consisted of 34 students chosen by purposive sampling technique. Technique of data collection used tests. To analyze the collected data, the researcher used IBM SPSS Statistics18. The finding of this study showed that there is a significant difference between the result of pre-test and post-test. The mean of post-test was 11.82 and it was bigger than the mean of pre-test 8.74. It means there was increasing score in the students’ achievement. From statistical calculation showed that the significant value is 0.000 which was smaller than the significant level 0.05. It means that the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. Based on the result above, it can be concluded that the students of the sevengrade at MTs Assyafi’iyah Gondang Tulungagung had better score in speaking after being taught by using Bambo Dancing method. It is suggested that Bamboo Dancing method can be used to teach speakingfor Junior High School students. Keywords: Effectiveness, Speaking, Bamboo Dancing Method
